Genocide, Holocaust, and Voices of the Oppressed

Welcome to The Young Women's Leadership School of East Harlem's 10th Grade English Blog, "Remember Me: Genocide, Holocaust, & Voices of the Oppressed." Our young ladies have worked hard to prepare a series of presentations about genocides that have occurred, or are still occurring, around the world. The posts and files here are some examples of the brilliant work they've done for this educational unit, as well as the instructional materials they used to get started.

Please be advised that some of the images and content in this blog are of a disturbing and graphic nature.

This PowerPoint file was created by Al and me. You can find this PowerPoint file by following the link below. Al began researching this topic during a trip funded by a New Visions for Public Schools grant; most of the images you'll see in our presentation were taken by Al.

We generated this as a model A presentation, to give the students an idea of what they should include in their presentations. We created this alongside students as they worked on various parts of their own presentations, then gave the presentation to them in-class.

This presentation catalogs the Cambodian Genocide. Students spent the two weeks before this presentation reading Bophana, watching The Killing Fields, and reading other creative and narrative works on or about the genocide, all of which are briefly described in the PowerPoint.
